My Life

Camp NaNoWriMo July 2022

Camp NaNoWriMo July 2022 is the perfect time to do some summer writing. It has been a hell of a year and I am pleased to be able to free write again. I am concluding my MA next semester with the creative dissertation module and hope to go back to where it all started and develop a new draft of my passion project, ‘Realms of Magic’ and in particular my first book, ‘Realms of Magic: the Prophecy of the Lost Child’.  In Camp NaNoWriMo April 2022 I began the foundation of the work on this novel which I will pick up in September for my dissertation, but for now, I turn my attention elsewhere in the series. I have many drafts of the first two books in the series, ‘Realms of Magic: the Prophecy of the Lost Child’ and book two, ‘Realms of Magic: the Destiny of the Fae Child’ and now I get to turn my attention to book three, ‘Realms of Magic: the Princess Within’ and book four, ‘Realms of Magic: Royal Duty’

I must admit I have an outline of all four books and potentially more in the series and now I can put them into action. The first two books focus on my protagonist learning to control her fae gifts and the search for her birth family. Book two is a continuation of the first. ‘Realms of Magic: the Princess Within’ for the third book, however, is a different story that takes place a number of months after the conclusion of the second book. The audience will find my protagonist struggling to adapt to life as a royal. Using the drafts I had for books one and two, I can now carry through significant events from the first two books as my character deals with the repercussions of them while being able to explore new territory.

I am pleasantly surprised how much I have been able to free-write for book three and what avenues it has opened up for my protagonist and the characters around her. Having a clean slate for this book has proved useful and after a month, I have managed to kick start my protagonist’s next chapter while giving her life more complications before she starts on a new adventure.  The new instalment brings more courage, determination, and heartbreak with the potential of new love and unlocking new family secrets.

Looking back at the original two books, I realised they have focused on my protagonist losing and finding her way while living a life that others have chosen for her and though this instalment definitely touches on this, it is more with the idea of her breaking out and being able to change her life, still keeping the key components that she wants. In writing book three, I have started to think about book four and how I will tie the books together and complete the series. I am planning book three to be a bridge between book two and book four with book three being vital and having monumental points in my protagonist’s journey which will affect her for the good and the bad but will then affect her decisions in book four, giving consequence to where she is is in the concluding scene of the book and there for the series

Camp NaNoWriMo July 2022 has been a chaotic month but I have straightened the future of Realms of Magic.
