Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Based on the successful novel by Nicola Yoon, Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) is a smart and imaginative 18-year-old, who has all the same interests as any other girl her age, but is unable to venture outside the protection of her hermetically-sealed environment house due to the illness, ‘severe combined immunodeficiency’. Maddy’s life has been narrowed and reframed for the past 18 years, with only her mother and her nurse for company, this is changed when a family moves in next door including a handsome young man with the name of Olly (Nick Robinson).
The two of them develop a relationship with each other by gazing through their bedroom windows at each other and communicating via text messages. Maddy and Olly develop a strong, loving relationship, leading them to risk everything to be together, which could have dire consequences for both of them.
I love this film; it is emotional and heart touching, Amandla Stenberg’s performance is tear-jerking.
