The phenomenal hit of Mamma Mia returns to our screens, 10 years after the original, this time for Mamma Mia – Here We Go Again. The story returns with Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) having taken over management her family’s hotel in Kalokairi following the death of her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep). The story changes between present day, focusing on a story of the much loved characters from the original film including Sam (Pierce Brosnan) Bill (Stellan Skarsgård) Harry (Colin Firth), Rosie (Julie Walters) and Tanya (Christine Baranski) and then changes to tell the story of a young Donna (Lily James) graduates from University with her two best friends, young Rosie (Alexa Davies) and young Tanya (Jessica Keenan Wynn) before journeying to Kalokairi and starts an adventure that changes her life forever and let’s not forget the three encounters with the three men who became candidates for Sophie’s father, young Sam (Jeremy Irvine) young Bill (Josh Dylan) and young Harry (Hugh Skinner) Who is the father?
The film was great, but I found it complex and a bit dry in places. I think they were trying to incorporate too much into one film, but I understand why they did so and parts of it were really good, the casting was ace, I did not get confused which young actor was the older character in miniature and touching in the way the film played out.
