Melody and were enjoying the freshers opening party at the 02 Academy in Leicester, we were just leaving the club for the night when I saw a big bright poster promoting a lets disco event that 02 Academy Leicester would be holding a LETSDISKO event later that year which was Harry Potter themed.
Immediately I was all set to go to this party. When I saw the date of the event, I thought what perfect timing. The date of the party was on 15th November, which was the day before the realise of the brand new Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them film. It couldn’t have been better timing.
02 academy pulled out all the stops for the party. The Party Bus that people can usually catch to the 02 Academy Leicester was replaced by a Hogwarts Express which people could board at 11pm, 11.30pm, midnight & 12.30am and let it take them 02 Academy in Leicester for one night only. Unfortunately, I could not board it because I couldn’t transfer out of my wheelchair, but oh well.
Wanting to go all out for the party, Melody dressed in her Slytherin jumper and black leggings. She was a pure and loyal Slytherin. Me, however, couldn’t decide on my outfit, so in the end, I decided to wear black leggings, a Ravenclaw grey T-shirt, with a Gryffindor Hogwarts cloak over the top. I must admit, though my original house was Gryffindor, I do have traits of Ravenclaw in me!
Arriving in a taxi, Melody and I found that the space within the 02 Academy Leicester was absolutely packed. There were four rooms, each one dedicated to a Hogwarts house. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin house. On giving their choice of Hogwarts house, people were directed to that room and got given their house badge.
Melody and I couldn’t decide room and therefore which house to spend our night in, so we drifted between the rooms dedicated to Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Both of us wanted to stay loyal to our Hogwarts houses. There was a very good themed Hogwarts drinks menu including Butterbeer Vodka Slushies! A great combination for all students who were Harry Potter fans. I must admit I got very tipsy on these alcohol themed drinks.
Alongside all of this, there was a lot of Harry Potter giveaways throughout the night, including life-size Harry Potter cutouts of the characters as well as Harry Potter themed face masks. There was also other Harry Potter giveaways with prizes of Harry Potter glasses and magic wands! I took advantage of the free Harry Potter glasses, which are currently sitting at home in Birmingham. As much as I wanted to take cardboard cut-out of the characters, I don’t think I would have been able to be conspicuous enough to carry them home and I just wouldn’t know where to put them, to be honest.
To make this party better, Harry Potter films were playing on big screens in all four all the Hogwarts house rooms. Melody and I really enjoyed this night and as when we left, we were even more excited to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald when it came out the next day!
